“Did you arrange for someone to collect Dad’s belongings while we were out of the country?”
He didn’t answer.
And that silence told me more than any explanation could have.
I called Mom back.
“Please keep all those papers safe. I’m coming home.”
Then I ended the call.
Dereck looked at me in disbelief.
“You’re seriously canceling our anniversary vacation over some old tools?”
I stared at him.
“Don’t call them that.”
He rubbed his forehead.
“That’s not what I meant.”
“Then what did you mean?”
He looked toward the departure screens.
“Vamos a perder nuestro vuelo”.
“Entonces lo extrañaremos”.
Por primera vez en nuestro matrimonio, no iba a dejar que Dereck me convenciera de que mis sentimientos importaban menos que sus planes.
We left the airport separately.
I took a taxi home while he collected our luggage and followed in our car.
